Why Has the Cost of Crayfish Gone Up So Much?

I live in Michigan, and over the past couple of years I have seen a decline in the availability of crawfish and a drastic increase in cost. Any idea what could be causing this? I use to get them for about $3/lb. Yesterday I finally found some at Whole Foods and paid $8.49/lb on sale!
